Do we have enough terrain do we think? Just finished reading the rules, and I think the more we have the better, but the club stuff is quite limited.

Not sure Greg - It does benefit from a lot of cover. If anyone has buildings, ruins, walls, rubble etc, might be worth bringing down if the club is short on real estate. Depends how many games we want to run together I guess too. Scrivs made a suggestion about using small starter war bands as a taster on the day - One caster and a a few supporting members.. you could use a 2x2 for that, or play more than two factions on the table. It would save a lot of trying to put together war bands from the lists on the day. However I know Quint said he'd prefer to play 'properly' and use the whole war band... I don't mind what we do but might be worth getting a consensus (we could have a mixture of course). I can make up and bring two war bands, along with some extra supporting soldier figures. I'll write them up beforehand too. I can also bring along the bodged scenery I've made so far, but there's not lots of it.

Best Real Estate I have is Tudor/Medieval plus a couple of ruins.
Agree with Q - use full Warbands but play on 2 x 2 if you want quicker games and/or multiplayer.
Set your WBs in advance and chose (and learn) your Spells to speed up matters on the day.
I've only had a couple of practice games so far but good fun.
Any QRS on the go?

Hi Always assumed like any army list they would be worked out beforehand. Still unsure how it works with large number of players in one game could be quite a wait between goes and given poor luck there is fair chance someone could be about dead before they get a go in a free for all. Consensus is nice but hard go for benevolent tyrany instead lol Ian can tell us what we are doing Most of us will have read rules but not actually played so as Mog suggested have 2 "sides" and fewer figs as it looks like we will reach 7 or 8 players, more than I expected and with a guest appearance too Q

Thanks for voting me in as benevolent dictator. I will endeavour to rule with an iron fist inside a velvet glove! So far it looks like the following are up for giving it a go next Tuesday: - Trev
- Greg
- Quint
- Me
- Mog?
- Ady
- Ian (I'm not losing it - it is a different Ian!)
- jdw12 = James?
As we've got quite a few players and most of us have not played the rules before, I suggest we go for smaller warbands than usual. Possibly a Wizard, a few men-at-arms, and an archer, as per Scrivs suggestion. I'm very keen on the full warbands (I've got my eye on a nice ogre model as a thug), but I think that the smaller warbands might work better for our first couple of games as we get our heads around it. If people can try and draw up lists beforehand, that would be really helpful. I've attached a Word document I have made at the bottom of this post so that the creation of the lists is a bit easier (it's my Elementalist List). If you can bring multiple warbands for those who haven't got the toys yet, that would also be great. I should be able to bring an Elementalist and a Necromancer. As highlighted in the discussion, if you have any appropriate terrain, please bring it along. It'll be a judgement call on the night of whether or not we play one big game or two smaller games next to one another. I was pondering the use of playing cards to determine initiative, instead of dice rolls, given the number of players? Thoughts? If you follow this link you can print out the spells and the QRS: ospreypublishing.com/gaming-resourcesOur objective is to have a laugh and a game as a group, instead of just being a bunch of people who play games in the same room! I'm sure that we will have a great time and I'm looking forward to building a full warband once I've got my head around the rules! What do you all think? Cheers, Ian. How about 2 multi player games, next to each other - ie not opposite ends of room. Could still use one board. Keeps it all together, but shouldn't slow down the game/s too much!

Ian, that all sounds fine to me. I think I have 3 or 4 old warhammer wizards around somewhere and with my empire stuff I have plenty of men to make a few warrants. I am all for the suggested approach so we can understand things and maybe not slow it up too much. I think leave the initiative as it is, but happy to hear what everyone else thinks.
I think 2 tables side by side as Trev suggests is the way to go.

For the sake of learning the rules, 4 on a table worked for us.
I suspect that a Wiz is too powerful with small WBs but Benevolent Dictator and all that ... [grin]
So, how many points/gps are we playing to?
James/JDW12/Jammers etc

Thanks Q. Interesting read, from reading the rules I kind of get what they say, but I think it will become clearer on Tuesday.

Actually.. it should be fairly quick to pick a war band on the evening from the available figs.. it's the wizards that take a while to set up, so I'll make up some sheets for the couple that I have for Tuesday, work out the spells etc. ?

Thought the rules said 500 gp. With a maximum of 10 figs! And they tell you its fine for multi player. I'll have quite a few spare longbow, crossbow, halberdiers and billmen spare.

Had a great time today at the Battle Front Frostgrave campaign day.
Really good fun and simple enough even though I'd only played twice before.
Spoke to the author and have a different perspective on the campaign rules - a straight 20 will ruin your day no matter how advanced your Wiz is.
TBH I think you'd get more out of a 1 v 1 game on a 2 x 2 board with full WB rather than a reduced cookie cutter crew, even as a training game

Okay.. I can probably field two full size warbands at least (might have to proxy something for apprentices).. I'll make up two lists and bring them along, along with 'spare' soldiers etc. That way I have one to play with, and one for someone who is short of figs ?
